Panda Sex – Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

The Giant Panda, notorious for a low sex drive and fertility rates, may be encouraged towards more amorous behavior if separated from the opposite sex, a Chinese professor has claimed.

Dr. Zhang Hemin, inspecting the two pandas incumbent at Taipei Zoo, made the statement when asked about the chances of Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan having babies. “They may have more interest in each other after a brief separation” he said. Pandas have a brief mating season in February, and zoo-bound pandas need exercise to help them procreate.

The male is encouraged to stand on his hind legs in exercises instigated by recreating more wooden obstacles of the sort he would encounter in the wild. The male apparently does it standing up and cannot last if his hind leg muscles are not toned enough; difficult to achieve for an animal that prefers to roll around on his back chewing bamboo.

The pandas at Taipei Zoo are being slowly put through an exercise regime to try and take advantage of the February season. Pandas however tend to lose their interest in mating once in captivity. To date the primary reproduction method has been artificial insemination. This has led some scientists to try extreme methods such as showing pandas videos of other pandas mating and giving male pandas Viagra.

FDA: ‘All-natural’ sex pill contains active Viagra chemical

n a Thursday statement, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the consumers against the use of 'Stiff Nights' - a supposedly all-natural over-the-counter dietary supplement for sexual enhancement - saying that the product contains an active Viagra ingredient.

'Stiff Nights', available in bottles containing 6, 12, or 30 red capsules or in blister packs containing one or two capsules, is distributed on Internet sites and at retail stores by Impulsaria LLC of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Despite the fact that 'Stiff Nights' is marketed as an all-natural sex pill for men, FDA has clarified that the presence of the chemical ingredient in the pill is illegal and "can dangerously lower blood pressure" upon its interaction with prescription drugs called nitrates, including nitroglycerin.

The FDA warning about the 'Stiff Nights' pill follows its investigations initiated after receiving a customer complaint about the product. Though the agency did not elaborate on the nature of the complaint, it has found that the product contains sulfoaildenafil, which is quite akin to Viagra's active ingredient, sildenafil.

Commenting on 'Stiff Nights,' Deborah M. Autor, director of FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research Office of Compliance, said: "Because this product is labeled as an 'all natural dietary supplement,' consumers may assume it is harmless and poses no health risk. In fact, this product is illegally marketed and can cause serious complications."

American College of Physicians Gives Thumbs Up To Viagra, Cialis And Levitra

Recommendations just released by the American College of Physicians have made clear that the use of Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are without a doubt the best way to treat men suffering from erectile dysfunction, unless of course they are using medications which are contraindicated with them. The American College of Physicians is the largest specialist medical group in the United States and the second largest organisation of doctors.

They did not specifically mention one of the erectile dysfunction drugs by name but grouped them altogether describing them as oral phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitors. They did say however that whether to use Viagra, Cialis or Levitra should be based upon the individual patient’s preference which should take into account the cost, the adverse effects and whether they were easy to use. They noted that there was not enough evidence to see whether there were any significant differences in the effectiveness and adverse effects of Viagra, Cialis and Levitra because there had not been enough comparative studies of the three.

The report which was prepared by Professor Amir Qaseem, a senior medical associate from the American College of Physicians involved the analysis of over 130 different clinical trials done in different parts of the globe using one of the three established erectile dysfunction drugs.

The American College of Physicians concluded that overall Viagra, Cialis and Levitra were well tolerated and were only associated with mild or moderate side effects such as headaches, flushed faces runny noses and upset stomachs. They also described the treatment with PDE-5 inhibitors as resulting in “statistically significant and clinically relevant” betterment of erectile function and thus sexual intercourse for those men who used them.

Fake Viagra pills seized at Miami International Airport

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Miami International Airport intercepted 21,600 counterfeit Viagra pills that weighed a total of 50 pounds.

During the inspection of a shipment from India that was in transit through the United States, Customs officers became suspicious of a number of boxes containing a large number of pills.

Samples sent to a Customs import specialist group for further examination were found to be inconsistent with authentic Viagra.

``The people who traffic in this type of crime not only steal from legitimate companies, but they also dupe the unknowing consumer into buying items that are of unknown origin and manufacture,'' said Harold Woodward, director of field operations. ``In some cases a counterfeit item that does not meet the manufacturer's specifications can threaten the health or safety of a consumer.

Seniors, Sex, and STDs: Widowers Beware

Well, of course older people engage in sexual activity. Sex is a part of healthy aging.

With medications for erectile dysfunction (ED), such as Viagra® and Cialis®, men can engage in sexual activity for more years than was previously possible.

This apparent benefit has not been without costs.

For example, reports are widespread of women feeling betrayed when their men, buoyed by their pharmacologically enhanced sexual performances, leave them for younger women. Also, when men’s long dormant sexual appetites transform abruptly within the relationship, those relationships can become suffer.

Study results released today from Harvard researchers shows that the "new lease on lust" that ED drugs provide, not only put relationships at risk, but is dangerous to sexual health.

You see the study, which began in 1993, showed that older men whose wives had died within six months to a year were more likely (16 percent) than their still-married peers to be diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease. Since the Viagra era began in 1998, a bereaved man’s risk of being diagnosed with an STD increased by 83 percent.

Although the number of men or women diagnosed during follow up years of the study was very low, older adults need to be aware that they are at risk for STD if they have new sexual partners following a spouse’s death.

Gonorrhea was the most common STD in men and trichomoniasis was the most common in women. Other STDs included syphilis, genital herpes, HIV and human papilloma virus (HPV).

'Viagra effect' undermining Brazil's pension system

The widespread tendency in Brazil for men to remarry women several decades younger -- called the "Viagra effect" -- is undermining the country's pension system, researchers warned Tuesday.

The report, by Brazil's National Social Security Institute (INSS), showed that a trend of men in their 60s marrying women half their age was leaving a big pool of young widows collecting benefits for much longer than anticipated.

"The social security system was planned so that the wife receives her husband's pension for only 15 years or so. With growing life expectancy and remarriages with much younger women, benefits today stretch out over 35 years," the author of the study, Paulo Tafner, explained to AFP.

He said the younger-wife phenomenon was commonly called the "Viagra effect."

But he noted that in fact the trend started in the 1970s -- well before the advent of the little blue pill that has since the mid-1990s helped men carry their sex lives well into old age.

According to the INSS report, two out of three men who are separated remarry, while only one out of three separated women find a new husband.

Of the separated men, 64 percent of those aged over 50 remarry women younger than them. In the 60-64 age range, the proportion is 69 percent.

And the marked preference is for women aged 30 years younger.

Brazil has a mixed public-private pensions system.

Those in the public system receive the equivalent of their salary after retirement, while those with private funds receive a maximum of 1,800 dollars a month.

Under current laws, when a retired man dies, his wife continues to receive his full pension until her own death.

According to the INSS, 94 percent of pensions go to women.

"This is a grave and serious challenge for the future of the country, and it's going to require a reform of the pension system," Tafner said.
